Six 91社区Schools Announced as Recipients of the Lawrence Livermore National Security 2023 Community Gift Program

January 8, 2024, Livermore, CA - Six 91社区schools along with our Livermore music program were selected as recipients of the Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS) 2023 Community Gift Program. The LLNS Community Gift Program serves children in the Tri-Valley area, and Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties with a focus on literacy, STEM, and cultural arts. In all, fourty-six applications were selected for awards totaling $220,000.

"LLNS has a long history of supporting LVJUSD's students and schools through its Community Gift Program. We are once again extremely grateful for the support provided this year to so many of our programs which include robotics, metal shop, STEAM education, and music. This funding helps to provide access, equity, and the expansion of programs to Livermore students of all ages at all levels of instruction", stated 91社区Superintendent Chris Van Schaack.

The following 91社区school sites and programs received awards:
• Altamont Creek Elementary School: To push the boundaries of TK–5 grade education by offering additional learning opportunities with outdoor STEAM projects.
Arroyo Seco Elementary School: To help maintain modern, competitive materials in their Makerspace/STEAM Lab.
Joe Michell K-8 School: To provide first grade students with a Scholastic News subscription to complement district curricula.
Livermore High School, GravitechX Robotics Team: To support a student-led robotics program where students learn leadership, teamwork, and technical skills to prepare them for STEM careers.
Livermore High School, Metal Shop: To support the Metal Shop program, which trains students to become future machinists and engineers.
Marylin Avenue STEAM Academy: To support the launch and improvement of the first STEAM program in the LVJUSD.
Livermore Music: To purchase new violas and violins to support a program which loans musical instruments to high school students with a demonstrated financial need.

LLNS is the contract manager for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and is committed to supporting local communities. The $220,000 in support of the Community Gift Program is in addition to the $1.3 million contribution made by LLNS each year to the LLNL Helping Others More Effectively (HOME) Campaign, LLNL’s annual employee charitable giving program.
