The Tri Valley Native American Center (TVNAC) works collaboratively with the Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, and Castro Valley school districts. This program provides support services to students who are of Native American heritage (American Indian/Alaskan Native).

Support services are completely FREE to families who file the necessary paperwork, attached below. (ED 506 Form)
These forms are a crucial part of our federal funding!! One time application, covers your students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.  The center is located at Lawrence Elementary School, 2451 Portola Avenue, Room 25, Livermore CA 94551.

The U.S. Office of Indian Education (OIE) administers the Indian Education Program of ESEA, as amended by ESSA (Title VI, Part A), which establishes policies and provides financial and technical assistance for supporting LEAs, Indian Tribes and organizations, post- secondary institutions in meeting the special educational and cultural related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives, 20 U.S.C. 3423c and 7401 et. seq. The OIE is headed by a Director who reports to the Assistant Secretary and who advises the Assistant Secretary on matters related to the programs administered by OIE.

The OIE has three primary responsibilities:

1. To meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Indian students, so that such students can meet the challenging State academic standards;

2. To ensure that Indian students gain knowledge and understanding of Native communities, languages, Tribal histories, traditions, and cultures; and

3. To ensure that teachers, principals, other school leaders, and other staff who serve Indian students have the ability to provide culturally appropriate and effective instruction and support to such students.

The 1972 Indian Education Act was the landmark legislation establishing a comprehensive approach to meeting the unique needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students. The unique aspects of the original authority have been retained through subsequent legislative reauthorizing statutes, with the latest revision occurring with the amendments made by the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act.

TVNAC is a community resource center! We are open to the public as a small Native American History Museum & Library. We strongly encourage teachers and students to check out our educational resources. Classes are welcome to schedule a field trip to the TVNAC. We have amazing artifacts from the local Ohlone tribe and other nations across the country. These educational presentations can also travel to your classroom if unable to travel. 

We also have a spectacular Dance Group, showcasing Native American Powwow Dancing. This group is made up of local Native students who are champion Powwow Dancers. This performance makes for a great school assembly! If you’re interested in either of these presentations contact Tina Henson for more information.

Families of Native American ancestry please complete and submit the OIE ED506 form. This form confirms and certifies a student’s eligibility for the program. Annually, we need new students to sign up to determine our federal funding. Open enrollment is from August to December each school year.
