McKinney-Vento (MKV) is a Federal Law protecting the access to a public education when a student experiences changes to their living situation that results in homelessness.

91社区 is committed to the immediate enrollment of students who identify and meet the criteria for being homeless under the MKV law. 91社区 is also committed to protecting the confidentiality of these students and their families. The 91社区 strives to connect them to available district resources, as dictated by the MKV law, as well any applicable resources available in our Tri-Valley community.

Our primary goal is to support all students so they attend every day and thrive the entire school year.

The Child Welfare and Attendance department supports students, families and schools in a variety of areas. The Child Welfare and Attendance Specialists’ (CWA), are outreach workers who are assigned to specific school sites. CWA’s promote school enrollment, increasing school attendance, school transfer, and are homeless liaisons for special populations including foster, homeless, and recently immigrated students & families.  CWA’s also support the District with health and wellness strategies, including school adjustment, school, community and agency resource referrals, for social, emotional, and behavioral services.   We consider ourselves a resource and partner to all our educational partners.

• Enrollment within 24 hours (regardless of documentation/immunization status)

• Free/Reduced Meals Program

• Receive School Supplies, Transportation*, Support Service Referrals

• Removing Barriers to Education

Who is Homeless?

According to the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act, you are homeless if you live:

• In a shelter (family, domestic violence, or youth shelter or transitional living program)

• In a motel, hotel or weekly rate housing

• In shared housing with more than one family because of economic hardship or loss

• In an abandoned building, in a car, at a campground, or on the street

• In substandard housing (without electricity, water or heat)

• With friends or family because you are a runaway or an unaccompanied youth
