What is PBIS?

PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students. In other words, it is a system of school-wide expectations that is practiced by the entire school to help maintain a positive atmosphere that helps support the whole child. In 2018, Junction Avanue K-8 School was selected as the first K-8 school (and middle school) to implement PBIS from the ground up. Since implementation, Junction has been recognized for the school's commitment to administering the core features of PBIS. Junction has received a bronze award, a silver award, and two gold awards.
