  • My Story (the short version)

To start, let me tell you about my family. I have been married to my wife, Casey, for over 31 years.  She is a preschool teacher and administrator who is currently working as a nanny. Together we raised three boys, and each of them graduated from Livermore High School.  Our oldest son, Sam, played soccer and went to Pepperdine University in Malibu.  He is 29 and works in Los Angeles for a retirement investment firm.  Sam got married this  past summer to his longtime girlfriend, Lindsie. Our next son, Chris, loved to be outdoors and play online video games.  He is now 28, and was married two years ago to his wife, Cristina. They have a sweet, little girl, Avery, and added a little boy, Aiden, this past July. That officially makes me a grandfather. Chris works as a banker in Livermore.  Finally, our youngest son, Nathan, lives at home with us and graduated from Las Positas College.  He is 26 and loves the theater, having performed in several plays while in college. He works at a retail store in Dublin.

Over the years I have enjoyed a few opportunities to travel.  During my time in college, I was able to study for a semester in London, England.  After that, I spent two month on an archeological dig in Israel.  That trip sounds more fun than it actually was.  I thought I’d be carefully digging up amazing artifacts, but instead was part of a crew that hauled large boulders away from the site. Right after we were married, Casey and I moved to New Jersey and lived there for three years while I attended graduate school. However, while I enjoy other parts of the world, in my free time you will usually find me exploring some California beach.

While I am a 6th grade teacher now, I’ve also worked for over 25 years as a minister in a church and been a swimming coach at four different high schools. Ten years ago I became an author when I wrote a young adult fantasy called The Brand Medallion.  I spent a year creating characters, developing a story and writing the book.  I’ve learned to do a wide range of things over the years, and enjoy different kinds of work.

One last thing I’ll add about myself – I love animals. Five years ago Casey and I bought a horse, and we’ve spent a lot of time learning how to be good owners. We enjoy riding him in a local vineyard most Saturdays.  He lives in a pasture at a nearby stable.  We also own 2 small dogs that seem very excited to see me whenever I get home. That's a little about me, and I'm looking forward to getting to each of my students and learning about their experiences and passions.
