Mr. Chris Van Schaack

Chris Van Schaack brings a career of educational leadership in the 91社区 to his current position as Superintendent. Mr. Van Schaack began his career with 91社区in 1994 as a high school teacher and coach. He served as an elementary and high school principal and Director of Student Services & Special Education before becoming Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services in 2011 and Deputy Superintendent in 2017.

For 12 years, he led LVJUSD’s bargaining teams for all contract negotiations with the Livermore Education Association (LEA), the California School Employees Association (CSEA), and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and played a pivotal role in the District’s management of and response to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. Mr. Van Schaack is also an active member of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), serving as the chair on numerous visits and providing leadership to high schools throughout their accreditation process.

Mr. Van Schaack was born in Denver, Colorado, and was raised in Cupertino, California. After graduating from California State University, Sacramento, he had teaching positions in Sacramento and Fremont before accepting a position in Livermore in 1994. He and his wife Leslie remain Livermore residents and all of their children attended and graduated from Livermore schools before pursuing higher education. In his free time, Mr. Van Schaack enjoys sports - especially baseball, traveling, and home improvement projects.
